To be a Christian is to be a learner. In this unique account of growth in grace, ‘babes’, ‘little children’, ‘young men’ and ‘fathers’ are the stages through which the learners in Christ’s school pass on their way to the ‘academy of heaven’. While supporting and comforting beginners in the school of grace, Venning encourages all Christians to make further progress towards ‘the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ’ (Eph. 4:13).
Noting the eagerness of the newborn, the delight of the little child, the vigour of the young, and the wisdom of the mature, cannot but challenge mediocrity; seeing their foibles, weaknesses, and vulnerability will, on the other hand, challenge presumption. The book contains a much needed message for today.
‘Reaching and pressing forward, as Paul did, is the duty of all…’ – Ralph Venning

Rediscovering Their Original Design
Description
At one time, the Book of Psalms held a central place in the worship of biblically faithful churches. In many congregations, however, the Psalter has become neglected—not only are the Psalms not regularly sung, but the public reading of them has been limited to occasions when the text of the sermon is taken from that […]

An Appreciation of Isaiah Chapters 24-27
Description
Chapters 24–27 of Isaiah have been described as his ‘Tale of Two Cities.’ Like Charles Dickens’ well-known novel, they speak of a terrifying urban convulsion which has widespread reverberations. But the difference between them is of course far greater than any similarity. Dickens recorded the ‘Terror’ of the French Revolution that sent shock waves from […]
The Psalter
The Only Hymnal?
Description
Praise sung to God is the effect of a saving knowledge, given by the Holy Spirit through Scripture. On that all Christians are agreed, but on the words to be used in praise there is considerable difference, and even controversy. Advocates of the modern disagree with the traditional and vice versa. In the midst of […]
