John Howie of Lochgoin, author of the classic work The Scots Worthies<\/em>, lived all his days in relative\u00a0obscurity\u00a0in Ayrshire in the southwest of Scotland which, in earlier times, had been the scene of many notable events in the history of the Covenanters.
