G.H:\u00a0<\/strong>But I’m an Englishman! It would have to be\u00a0Jesus Himself: The Story of the Resurrection\u00a0<\/em>by Marcus Loane.<\/p>\n

The book that I am ashamed not to have read…<\/h3>\n

R.H:\u00a0<\/strong>Ryle,\u00a0Practical Religion.<\/em><\/p>\n

T.J:\u00a0<\/strong>C. K. Cummings,\u00a0Confessing Christ.<\/em><\/p>\n

G.H:\u00a0<\/strong>Walk Worthy,\u00a0<\/em>Peter Jeffrey.<\/p>\n

The book that I give to people thinking of becoming a Christian…<\/h3>\n

R.H:\u00a0<\/strong>I’m not sure.<\/p>\n

T.J:\u00a0<\/strong>Evangelism Explosion’s booklet,\u00a0Do You Know?<\/em><\/p>\n

G.H:\u00a0<\/strong>You Might Have Asked,\u00a0<\/em>by Stuart Olyott , now out of print. It needs a little updating and a new cover but it is so clear, engaging and helpful.<\/p>\n

The book that I wish I were able to write and want someone to write…<\/h3>\n

R.H:\u00a0<\/strong>Again, I’m not sure on this one.<\/p>\n

T.J:\u00a0<\/strong>The Directory for the Public Worship of God: Backgrounds, Debates, Influence.<\/em><\/p>\n

G.H:\u00a0<\/strong>In\u00a0The Collected Writings of James Henley Thornwell, Volume 2,\u00a0<\/em>there is a wonderful treatise on the Priesthood of Christ. The prose is dense and perhaps, for some, impenetrable, but it is so full of light, life and the beauty of Jesus, that it needs to be rewritten to recover it for a new generation. ‘Make Jesus your friend , confide in Him as your Saviour, and you conquer the world, trample over death and take hold on eternal life.’ Or perhaps a book in the Kingdom of God , its origins, its dimensions, its ‘already but not yet’ nature, and its consummation, to put heart into our people.<\/p>\n

The best books for children…<\/h3>\n

R.H:\u00a0<\/strong>Sinclair Ferguson’s short series of historical biographies.<\/p>\n

T.J:\u00a0<\/strong>Douglas Jones,\u00a0Huguenot Garden.<\/em><\/p>\n

G.H:\u00a0<\/strong>Ferdinand: The Engine Who Went off the Rails<\/em> by Ann Benton , terrific!\u00a0The Narnia Chronicles<\/em> by C. S. Lewis, too. They are only stories but the landscape, imagination and imagery all help seed the ground when speaking of the Lord.\u00a0Pilgrim’s Progress<\/em> is another good one.<\/p>\n
