Book Description
Martyn-Lloyd Jones says in his book Authority, that there is a crisis of authority in society today. All inherited authority is suspect, being regarded as incompatible with man’s freedom, yet what has resulted is a disordered and dehumanized society.
But the source of this confusion lies in the church itself. The authority of the Bible has been called in question and commonly today the church is left without any sense of divine authority.
Dr. Lloyd-Jones faces this issue as he discusses the only road to recovery. We must reassert the divine authority of Christ, of his Word and of his Spirit or face ‘the blackness of darkness forever’. This book was first published by the InterVarsity Press, gives basic treatment to a theme of enduring importance.

Phillip Brokenshire –
Lloyd Jones is correct that ‘authority is one of the most important problems confronting us.’ This is possibly even more relevant today. We need to understand the authority of Jesus, the scriptures and the Holy Spirit anew. This mighty little book is much needed today.

Good and important book
Matthew –
Overall this is a very good book. The various aspects of authority that Doctor Jones deals with are thoughtful and well articulated. Doctor Jones elaborates upon the importance of the authority that the Scriptures, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit has over the Church and the lives of Christians. However, since these were originally addresses that Doctor Jones gave in 1958 in Canada, some of the specific problems of the day he is addressing may not necessarily be directly relatable to every possible reader out there today; but the message and focus of this book as a whole is certainly timeless. Those who are already familiar with Martyn Lloyd Jones and/or are regular Banner of Truth customers will definitely enjoy it and should add it to their libraries.
