The book that I am currently reading…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>Paul Wells,\u00a0Cross Words,\u00a0<\/em>on the atonement.<\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>John Calvin,\u00a0Tracts and Letters, Vols. 4-7\u00a0<\/em>(the letters).<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>I have several on the go, but the most gripping is\u00a0Grieving, Hope and Solace\u00a0<\/em>by Al Martin.<\/p>\n

The book that changed my life…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>J.I. Packer,\u00a0Knowing God<\/em> is high up the list, as is Dr. Lloyd-Jones’ sermons on Ephesians 5,\u00a0Life in the Spirit in Marriage, Work and Home<\/em>. The former reversed my opinion about theology and showed me it is thrilling; the latter reversed my opinions about the work of the Spirit and showed me that it is precisely in the ordinary things of life that he works in an extraordinary manner.<\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>A.W. Pink,\u00a0The Sovereignty of God.<\/em> Although I would like to add John Owen’s\u00a0On Communion With God<\/em>. They were crucial at different stages of my Christian life.<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>I’m a little bashful about acknowledging it. It is a book I couldn’t recommend now. The book is\u00a0Nine O’ Clock in the Morning<\/em> by Dennis and Rita Bennet. I wasn’t a Christian when a friend gave me this book to read. It had the ‘sinner’s prayer’ at the end. ‘So, this is how I must speak to God,’ I thought and I prayed it as best as I could. By the grace of God, it was a part of a process that changed my life and my eternal destiny.<\/p>\n

The book I wish I could write…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>Calvin’s Institutes.<\/em><\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>A book on the biblical doctrine of adoption to sonship.<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>Since the death of my dear wife, I would like to be able to write a book on Christians grieving.<\/p>\n

The book that helped my preaching…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>Most recently, Charles J. Brown,\u00a0‘Elements of Pulpit Power’, in his,\u00a0The Ministry: Addresses to Students of Divinity<\/em> (Edinburgh: Banner of Truth Trust, 2006) pp.63-78. Overall, hard to say , a combination of Haddon Robinson, MLJ, Chappell, Dabney and others.<\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>D.M. Lloyd-Jones,\u00a0Preaching and Preachers<\/em> (probably because I was also at WTS Philadelphia when he gave the original lectures). Spurgeon and Bridges are not far behind.<\/p>\n

M.I:<\/strong> I preached for several years in the open air, and there are two books and one leaflet that were helpful.\u00a0Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God<\/em> by J.I. Packer and\u00a0Today’s Gospel<\/em> by Walter Chantry. The leaflet is Packer’s ‘Introductory Essay to\u00a0The Death of Death<\/em> by John Owen’. I was also helped by\u00a0Life by His Death<\/em>, an abridged version of\u00a0Death of Death.<\/em><\/p>\n

The book I think is most underrated…<\/h3>\n

R.S: <\/strong>No idea, but it would be very good for us all if we were to read John Owen on topics such as justification, mortification, and communion with God.<\/p>\n

A.W: <\/strong>John Murray,\u00a0Redemption Accomplished and Applied.<\/em><\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>The Crook in the Lot<\/em> by Thomas Boston. My late wife Sue and I read it many years ago , and it was foundational for our understanding of the providence of God.<\/p>\n

The book that made me say amen as I read…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>Plenty of these, but most recently, probably\u00a0Thomas Watson on the\u00a0Beatitudes.<\/em><\/p>\n

A.W:<\/strong> Edward Donnelly,\u00a0Life in Christ.<\/em><\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>The Potter’s Freedom\u00a0<\/em>by Dr. James White. It is a defence of the absolute sovereignty of the God whose only limitation in whatever he does is his will. The book is a critique of another book by Dr. Geisler, but it is written in a way that draws out the reader’s heart in gratitude, and he falls on his face before God.<\/p>\n

The last book that made me weep…<\/h3>\n

R.S: <\/strong>George Eliot’s\u00a0Adam Bede,\u00a0<\/em>I confess!<\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>It was a book that described the martyrdom of Cyprian of Carthage , I cannot recall whether it was Nick Needham’s\u00a02000 Years of Christ’s\u00a0Power<\/em>, or in a book by Michael Haykin.<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>The I Will’s of the Psalms<\/em> by P.B. Power (also\u00a0Grieving, Hope and Solace<\/em> by Al Martin).<\/p>\n

The book I am most ashamed not to have read…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>Lots, but probably Thomas Boston’s\u00a0Fourfold State<\/em> ought to be high on my list for reading soon.<\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>Calvin’s\u00a0Institutes<\/em> (I have read different chunks at various times but never from beginning to end).<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>Holiness<\/em> by J.C. Ryle<\/p>\n

The book I most often give to new church members and young Christians…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>I’m ashamed to say I don’t give many books to others , I should do.<\/p>\n

A.W:<\/strong> Depending on their ability: Peter Jeffery,\u00a0Bite Size Theology\u00a0<\/em>and J.C. Ryle’s\u00a0Holiness<\/em>.<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>They are both written by Peter Jeffery, through whose ministry I came to know God.\u00a0All Things New\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Walk Worthy.<\/em><\/p>\n

The book I give to people thinking of becoming Christians…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>See above.<\/p>\n

A.W: <\/strong>Peter Jeffery,\u00a0Which Way to God<\/em>?\u00a0<\/em>and John Blanchard,\u00a0Ultimate Questions.<\/em><\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>I have given\u00a0Seeking God\u00a0<\/em>by Peter Jeffery.<\/p>\n

The book I wish I were able to write\/want someone to write…<\/h3>\n

R.S:<\/strong> A persuasive, thought-provoking book on the reality of the unseen spiritual world, as the denial of this seems to be central to western society’s mindset today , and this affects Christians too.<\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>A book that would settle once and for all the vexed question of baptism and put an end to the division among the churches of Christ!<\/p>\n

M.I:\u00a0<\/strong>A book on Christian Liberty.<\/p>\n

The best book for children…<\/h3>\n

R.S:\u00a0<\/strong>Sinclair Ferguson’s\u00a0Big Book of Questions and Answers.<\/em><\/p>\n

A.W:\u00a0<\/strong>Bunyan’s\u00a0Pilgrim’s Progress.<\/em><\/p>\n
