Book Description
On 1 July 1643, the Westminster Assembly of Divines, consisting of many of the foremost theologians of the English and Scottish churches, convened at Westminster Abbey in London. Their task from the English Parliament was ambitious to say the least: to reform the liturgy, discipline, and government of the Church of England; to promote church unity between England, Scotland, and the Continent; and to clarify and revise the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion of the Church of England.
Over the course of five politically tumultuous years, committees of the Assembly met and developed a set of documents that would have significant influence in defining the belief and practice of Presbyterian churches in Britain (especially in Scotland) and indeed the world. The doctrinal framework that the Assembly established in their Confession also provided the foundation of the central creedal documents of the Baptists and Congregationalists that were clarified in the decades following the Assembly.
Although the hoped-for unity between the English and Scottish churches did not materialise, nevertheless the documents produced by the Assembly, and especially the Confession of Faith and Larger and Shorter Catechisms, would become the touchstone for sound doctrine, cherished by generations of Christians as a well-honed summary of biblical truth.
Of the Confession of Faith itself, Professor John Murray noted: ‘The Westminster Confession is the last of the great reformation creeds. No creed of the Christian church is comparable to that of Westminster in respect of the skill with which the fruits of fifteen centuries of Christian thought have been preserved, and tat the same time examined anew and clarified in the light of that fuller understanding of God’s word which the Holy Spirit has imparted.’
This volume contains the Confession of Faith, the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, and the other principal documents to come out of the Westminster Assembly. The text is newly typeset, and biblical references are given in full. Later American revisions of the Westminster Confession are included in an appendix.

I simply love this whole volume. I love the Confession. But my old copy was hard to read, and not very attractive. I bought this have read it daily ever since. I found the other documents included interesting as well. Particularly the Public and Private Directories of Worship. Convicting and encouraging at the same time. If you are a confessional Christian, get this volume and keep it on your reading desk. It is attractive, easy to read, has all the Scripture references, and, well, its your confession too.
God Bless

What a joy to find this masterwork published with new formatting. This is the best edition of the Westminster Confession and related documents on the market. For years I’ve used the edition printed by the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, which in my opinion was the best hardcover edition. This edition is superior. First, it is printed by Versa Press, a American quality printer who also prints excellent editions for the Liberty Fund. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail are commendable: the font and layout are aesthetically pleasing and easy to read. Second, this edition is from 1857, eliminating modern many modernizing adjustments and getting closer to the original documents. Third, the book’s size is big enough to make it easy to read but small enough to not be too cumbersome. I appreciate these critical documents getting a fresh and well-though out reformatting. Anyone who reads the Westminster Confession should acquire this edition of it. Thanks Banner!

Thanks to Rev. Jason Burns I discovered Banner of Truth and I’m blessed that I have. This edition of the Westminster Confession of Faith is superbly done and the quality of workmanship cannot be flawed.
I recommend to all brethren faithful to the AV1611 to get this book. In this age of apostasy you need a doctrinally sound confession more than ever.
God bless.

I’ve had a copy of this excellent work that was published by the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland for many, many years and have marked it up extensively and so, it is not in the best of shape. I inherited my brother’s copy and gave that one the same treatment. But then it went out of print. I looked up used copies but they mostly cost $100.00+! I don’t have that kind of money. I bought a Kindle version, but that is not the same thing as holding a copy in my hands. When I saw that it had finally been republished as a hardback I rejoiced. I bought a copy and found that it also contained the 1788 American revisions as an appendix along with larger and more easily read print! Definitely added plusses! I’m going to recommend each family in my church purchase a copy. And me? I look forward to marking up this new copy!

I bought this and it’s easily my favorite print version of the Westminster Standards! The history nerd in me gets giddy just thinking about all the documents collected in this volume. This will serve me well for many years to come.
