What They’re Saying About Banner Books (2014 No. 3)

Category Book Reviews
Date July 4, 2014

‘Murray’s writing encourages the reader to be a thinking Christian, discerning the signs of the times. As a good historian he not only educates us about the past but applies to the present. As a good preacher he not only teaches us but also challenges us. As a good author he is not only clear but is also profound. This is a timely and important book that deserves to be widely read.’ – Alan Hill highly recommends Iain Murray’s new paperback Evangelical Holiness and Other Addresses.

In the Notes below are links to selected online reviews of Banner titles, posted May-June 2014. The views expressed are of course those of the respective bloggers/reviewers. For each title mentioned, a link is also provided to the appropriate page of the Trust’s online Bookstore, where orders can be placed.

Notes

Alan Hill (Montreux, Switzerland) has been busy at The Good Book Stall website:

finding ‘careful and clear teaching’ in Evangelical Holiness.

He says that ‘All preachers will benefit from reading Pastor Fish’s wise words’ in the new booklet Power in the Pulpit.

The latest title in the ‘Let’s Study’ series – Mark Johnston’s Let’s Study Colossians and Philemon is a ‘clear and concise commentary.’

And The Christian’s Great Enemy: A Practical Exposition of 1 Peter 5:8-11, by John Brown, is ‘a wonderful little book that deals with that daily battle against Satan, the enemy of our souls.’

Bob Thomas (Melbourne), in Australia’s online Christian newspaper, New Life (1 June 2014, page 2), was surprised by Evangelical Holiness, finding that ‘the modest presentation belies the strength and power of the message within.’

Also in New Life . . .

15 June 2014, page 16: Greg Goswell found the account of Robinson’s life in David Calhoun’s new biography, Pleading for a Reformation Vision: The Life and Selected Writings of William Childs Robinson (1897-1982), ‘garnished with many reminiscences of his character and ways as fondly remembered by his former students.’

1 June 2014, page 15: Bob Thomas says of the Pocket Puritan A Sampler from A Way to Pray that ‘this little booklet has sufficient in it to challenge the preacher or worship leader to prepare himself more thoroughly to pray.’

Terry Delaney (Mexico, Missouri), on his ‘Christian Book Notes’ blog, has also been reading Evangelical Holiness, and found that ‘these five sermons are extremely accessible to every Christian.’

Having your children with you in worship can be hard. It can be hard for the parents, for the children, and for the rest of the congregation.
